Located in Parkdale, The Shameful Tiki room is a tropical escape for us Torontians who hate the winter… er… so all of us?
The décor of this place is Polynesian themed with a relaxed vibe, painting a nice picture of paradise in your head. It was previously a cellblock called ‘Ravage and Rumble’, but it only took two months to transform it into a true tiki bar full of totem poles, birdmen paintings, and blowfish-like light fixtures. The food on the menu includes tiki-influenced bar snacks and classic drinks such as Mai Tais and Singapore Slings, all served in inventive glasses. If you have groups of three to four, you can order the Mystery Bowl, or Volcano Bowl, which is a rum-based potion served in a lit-up bowl (in which a gong announces it’s arrival, which is pretty entertaining).
Overall, the Shameful Tiki room provides a kitschy anomaly that no other spot provides. It provides a transportation to an era, and albeit commercial aspect of a tiki Hawaiian like world. It provides fun – and if you are okay to just let go and enjoy the atmosphere, you might just have a hell of a good time.
